How does it work?

Bike New York will lead a six-week cohort of Street Action Team members in a curriculum of engaging webinars, virtual classes, group discussions, and one-on-one phone chats. Webinar topics include:

  • The relationship between New York City Government, Department of Transportation, and Community Boards
  • The mechanics of conducting a street audit and how to identify unsafe street conditions
  • NYC street design solutions that effectively enhance safety for all street users

Participants will complete comprehensive street audits of intersections, sidewalks, and corridors right in their own neighborhoods, providing a solid foundation for independently identifying, prioritizing, and reporting street safety challenges directly to Community Boards. They will learn how to properly document these conditions for presentation and, with expert guidance from Bike New York, develop potential design solutions that represent local priorities.
The goal: Creating safer streets for everyone who uses them.

Who will be on the Street Action Team?

NYC residents who care about their community and want to make a difference at the local level. If you’re a denizen of the five boroughs who wants to help us build safer, healthier, and more inclusive streets for all New Yorkers, this program was made for you.
